About The Area

Lewes, “the first town in the first state” is just a few miles north of Rehoboth and is known for its many shops, restaurants, and historical venues near Second Street. Also, it is the is the southern terminus of the Cape May-Lewes Ferry and close to the popular outlet malls along Route 1.

Rehoboth Beach often bills itself as “The Nation’s Summer Capital” due to the fact that it is a frequent summer vacation destination for Washington, D.C., residents as well as visitors from Maryland, Virginia, and in lesser numbers, Pennsylvania. Vacationers are drawn for many reasons, including the town’s charm, artistic appeal, and nightlife. Famous for its beaches, wooden boardwalk, eclectic shops, amusements, and sporting activities, today’s Rehoboth Beach serves as an alternative to nearby and much more developed Ocean City, Maryland. Together the towns of Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, South Bethany, and Fenwick Island, comprises Delaware’s beach resorts and is Sussex County’s most densely populated and fastest-growing area.

hello, my wife and I are new to the area. We purchased a vacation condo at Beachaven last year and enjoy hanging out there out of season. The photo of the two towers on the beach on this page, could you tell me where this is? Do you if you can drive a 4X4 vehicles on this beach. thanks

    • Hi Tom,

There are cement towers on the beach between Rehoboth and Lewes. And you can 4 wheel drive on the beach at Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes if you have a surf-fishing license . There is a four-wheel drive vehicular license requirement for all state-owned beaches. This license is available at state park offices or at the Department in Dover. Additional rules and safety requirements will be given to the purchaser of a surf fishing vehicle license. For more information call (302) 739-4702.
