Send your local critter portrait to leeann@lewesrealestate.com along with his or her name and anything else you want the public to know about him or here….and we will post them here. Please write “Lewes Pet photo for Blog” in the subject line. P.S We’d post pictures of more than dogs if we could get any cats of Lewes to sit still long enough to pose.

Say hello to Jewel (the yellow lab puppy) who visited Lewes, DE this spring. She is in training with the new local chapter of Guiding Eyes, in Milford, Delaware. Want to know more about Guiding Eye Dogs? You can visit the national Guiding Eyes website to get information on their organization and on volunteering locally. They are always looking for puppy raisers (which requires a one year to 18 month commitment) and puppy sitters. Are you ready to open your heart and home to a large breed puppy? A bright and curious character you will patiently train (with lots of professional help) in order to provide the gift of independence to a blind person? It’s a challenge with a huge reward but one that requires a leap of faith!

Saturday Morning the Lewes Farmer’s Market

We spotted quite a few little dogs at the Lewes Farmer’s Market one recent Saturday morning. This little guy made it clear why you want to avoid buying any fruits or vegetables that have fallen on to the ground. (You just missed him lifting his leg).

The Junction and Breakwater Trail between Lewes and Rehoboth is one of the best places to take your dogs for a walk on a sunny day because you will find lots of shade. But in late July and August if there’s not enough of a breeze you risk being stalked by horseflies or greenheads.  More and more bicyclists have  discovered the trail too, so keep a short leash handy (especially on the weekends in the summer) if your dog doesn’t have the sense (my dog thinks she owns the trail) to get out of the way.

Heard about Opera at the Beach on the radio last night on my way home from work and thought I’d check it out. We are anxious for Touch of Italy to open in Lewes as we use to drive to Oceanview for our pastries and deli meats. Saw the category about Pets and since we have an 8 month Shih Tzu we are always interested about where we can take her.Love the pictures. I’ll have to ask my husband to send a pic of Sasha.

    • Hi Sharon,

Thanks for writing. I’ve been told that Aprile Millo has an astoundingly beautiful voice and seeing her perform live is one of those rare jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring experiences. I”m looking forward to it myself.
